HOW TO KNIT WITH LINEN

There is nothing more pleasant to wear in the summer than a loose, breathable linen shirt. We dream of knitting loose cover ups to wear over a tank top, yet we are scared of the feel of the yarn. Linen yarn undeniably feels different from its woolly sibling. Where wool is elastic, linen is not. So how do you knit with linen? Here are a few recommendations that will help you knit the garments you imagined. 1- BE LOOSE! A natural tendency when knitting with linen is to tighten up to try and make the stitches neater and tighter. DON'T! Rather, stay as relaxed as you can. Put little tension on your yarn, let the yarn glide, and the stitches form loosely. If you want to knit at a tighter gauge,

WAITING FOR RAIN IN WOLLMEISE AND MALABRIGO

Waiting for Rain, a very beautiful, dynamic knit shawl with a strong textural aspect by Sylvia McFadden is finished! The red body of the shall is knit in garter stitch, and lace inserts are created. I really loved the textural contrast and decided to accentuate it by using very contrasting yarns. The red is Wollmeise Pure fingering yarn in the Auf dem Rotten Teppich colorway, and the teal is Malabrigo Aguas. The shawl was wet blocked, just enough to open up the lace inserts. You will have to stop by the shop to feel how soft the Wollmeise is, and see the gorgeous drape! If you have never worked with Wollmeise, I strongly recommend it, and encourage you to try the Waiting for Rain shawl! #Wo

OUR YARN OF THE MONTH: SPINCYCLE DYED IN THE WOOL

The April Yarn of the Month is Spincycle's Dyed in the Wool. It is 20% off all month while supplies last! I love Spincycle fo multiple reasons. First, the yarn comes in glorious colorways, and it has the look of handspun. I just adore the barber pole look. The colors come in long repeats. It is a heavy fingering yarn with 200 yards per skein! I have knitted 2 projects using Spincycle so far. The Baby Surprise Jacket which took 1 1/2 skein, and with the left over I knitted the Hyphen cowl! 2 projects out of 2 skeins! Did I say the company was a woman owned company, that the fibers came from American sheep, and that the yarn was spun in a mother/daughter owned mill on Camano Island? Stop by th

WOLLMEISE YARN SAMPLE KNITTING IN PROGRESS AT THE NOBLE THREAD

A few days ago we received samples of Wollmeise Pure in anticipation of our big shipment of 19 colorways arriving! I can tell you the colors are breathtaking. They are so saturated! I chose to knit a sample with Auf dem roten Teppich, a gorgeous deep red color with touches of burgundy and pinks. I picked the Waiting for Rain shawl by Sylvia MacFadden. The beautiful lace inserts really appealed to me. The Wollmeise yarn is amazing to work with, I believe it is a tightly spun 8 ply. It round, and does not split, and does not fuzz! The yarn just glides smoothly in my hands, and the stitches elegantly over the needles. That's it for today. I am going to go knit on the shawl now... I know summe
