I love all fibert arts. Knitting, crochet, embroidery, spinning... But weaving holds a very special place in my life.
Weaving came late in my life though like many people I have met I had wanted to to weave fo many years before I actually started. I meet people every day who tell my very story. Like me they watched countless videos, read all the books and materials they could find...
Finally, after a few years of dreaming, I became a weaver, thanks to my husband, who one Christmas, gave me a loom. I warped it that same night, and wove my first piece. It was a blue and yellow scarf. It was not perfect, but I was so happy.
To this day, tabby weave remains my favorite weave. I let the hand-dyed yarns sing their song, change colors randomly, and add textures with unspun fibers, and bits of fabric.
I have been working on a fabric for the last 3 days at the shop, using fingering yarns. Cascade Heritage in two tones for the warp, and Socks that Rock for the weft, and a tad of Remix in a soft golden yellow. There are dainty lines of spinning fiber here and there, and the occasional exuberant fiber bobbles!
I can hardly wait to finish the fabric, and enjoy my lightweight stole. I dream of its drape, and subtle hues...
Since the shop has been open, I have had the great joy to teach a few new weavers, and it has been just wonderful for me to see their dreams of weaving finally come true, like they once did for me. I have met wonderful experienced weavers as well, and it has been so fun for us to share our love of weaving. I am thinking it might be nice for us to have a meet. What do you think?
